The sustainability in our design :

All our puzzles are made from recycled materials and are recyclable themselves; they have been manufactured locally within the UK, minimising our carbon footprint .

The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals:

As part of the United Nations' Agenda for Sustainable Development, 17 SDGs were set, encouraging all countries to dedicate energy into improving standard of living, spurring economic growth and tackling climate change. Here at Mercury, we chose 7 of these goals to hone in on, constantly thinking of ways that our product can help create a more sustainable world.

As a team, we embrace our chosen UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially recognising the need for better education and gender equality.

We are keen to help create a world where people are more educated on influential women who have achieved incredible things and we hope to inspire not only the younger generation but all our customers! The board game section of Puzzlette consists of multiple factual questions about the 7 women, allowing people to learn about their hard work and life achievements.

Communication and expertise from other professionals is something we always value as a company; our team has attended a Young Enterprise Sustainability workshop lead by Richard Frost, Procurement Head of Sustainability, Innovation and Risk at CRH UK Plc from which we were able to learn, with concrete examples, about the UN SDGs. Currently we are also taking part in the Euronext Sustainability Programme.

In addition, we designed our product with the aim of creating an enjoyable free-time activity, especially during the challenging times we are currently going through.

Studies have found that puzzling greatly reduces stress by occupying and engaging the mind to create a sense of calm and serenity (SPBH.org, 2017), as the mind focuses on an activity that is both meditative and satisfying.

Another mental health benefit that Puzzlette provides is the separation from digital devices. Smart phones and social media have a huge impact on our mental health and with the global pandemic, many of us are constantly connected to a device. During these times, it is essential to remember to prioritise taking care of our mind and well-being. Puzzling is also found to lower blood pressure and heart rate, helping relieve any stress or anxiety.

Puzzlette is for everyone!

Puzzles have also been shown to be extremely beneficial to seniors; here are just some of the many benefits puzzle offer:

  • Improves memory

  • Enhances problem-solving skills

  • Encourages attention to detail

  • Offers fun social collaboration
